Our Church
St Mary Magdalene Church, Church Lane, Himbleton – a special place to come together.
The early history of St Mary Magdalene Church is not clear; the first definite evidence points to establishment in the middle of the 12th century, although there may have been a Saxon church on the site before this.
Part of the nave wall suggests that the current structure is a Norman church; a modest building in comparison with many of the period, which was enlarged in the following years which included the addition of Shell Chapel.
More recent major alterations have been the addition of a vestry in 1906, the Lychgate in the 1930s and most recently, in 2009, a very much needed toilet and refreshment preparation area. The church and its members are a wonderful teaching and learning resource for our community and it is regularly used to support our RE curriculum.
As a school, we regularly attend services in St Mary Magdalene Church. We always attend at significant times in the Christian calendar, particularly at Harvest, Christmas and Easter. Children also look forward to the Values Celebration which takes place at the end of every half term during which children, voted for by their peers for consistently demonstrating the school's Christian Values, are awarded a values medal in the company of their families and the whole school.
We are also very fortunate that our vicar, Reverend Sandland, leads collective worship both at church and at our school.
Leaving Himbleton CE Primary School and Nursery is a huge milestone for our children and each summer, at the end of the school year, we hold a special service in the church to celebrate their time at the school and ‘send them off’ to the next phase of their journey with confidence and love.
