NURTURE

Welcome to Our Nursery

We are the Nursery class who love to spend our days together busily learning through play.

.

Our Daily Routine

Currently, our Nursery gate opens from 8.40 until 8:45, unfortunately parents are not allowed to enter the school building due to COVID-19 restrictions. We are therefore doing a handover at our classroom gate. You are more than welcome to have a socially distanced chat at the gate, with a member of staff. We are also encouraging communication with parents through Class Dojo.

At the start of each day, we engage in COOL time (carry on our learning) by exploring the classroom and all that has been enhanced for our play.

Each morning we spend time on phonics, developing their listening skills through fun activities and when they are ready, the children learn Phase One letters and sounds.

We also engage in a daily maths session, which is a mix of self-exploration and focus-taught activities.

Children then have access to both indoor and outdoor provision. We encourage independent learning through play, all adults interact with the children to help build communication skills and develop relationships with their peers. Our neutral classroom includes quality resources that we provide to help your child engage in meaningful activities.

Children have Milk and Fruit at break within the morning session. During this time we find the children enjoy chatting with their friends and we take this opportunity to also promote good manners and self-care.

Nursery children also take part in a number of short daily group activities. During this time children are encouraged to develop a range of skills including physical development, maths and personal, social and emotional development. These activities are planned to meet the interests and needs of the children and the children love learning both inside and outside.

We spend a lot of time outside and the children also benefit from our own onsite dedicated Forest school area.  We have an outstanding accredited forest school leader, who leads the learning in this area.

Mrs Wallis is our Nursery Teacher

Mrs Ford is the class TA (Nursery Key Worker)

Mrs Ball is our support assistant.

Payment for Nursery and wrap around care is invoiced a month in advance.

Children in Nursery wear full school uniform. Please bear in mind that play in Nursery can be very messy! Whilst we take every opportunity to remind children to wear aprons and waterproofs to protect their clothes in play, sometimes children forget or they do not protect every part of their clothes. As such it is recommended that the children keep spare clothes in a bag on their peg in case of any accidents, and we will happily change them in order to keep them clean and comfortable. We provide full waterproofs for all children in school and ask that parents provide wellies, a long-sleeved top, and an ‘old’ coat, to be kept in school at all times.

We also provide each child with a school book bag.

Children will bring home a reading diary. The children love going to the reading area to choose a book to share with friends and adults. Each time you share a book with your child, please write it in their reading diaries.

WOW moments, achievement, assessment and success

Throughout their time at Himbleton Nursery, each child has a ‘learning journey’, held on TapestryTM. This is an online learning journey, where many aspects of their learning are photographed and documented by the staff on iPads, alongside examples of their artwork, maths and mark making etc.,

We encourage families to contribute to their child’s learning journey by offering comments and supporting our themes throughout the year.

Parents are also encouraged to upload their children’s home learning on TapestryTM, so this can be shared within the classroom.

We hold a celebration worship each Friday, celebrating individual children’s successes with certificates and work sharing.

We also use Class DojoTM to keep communication open between home and school.
